Mark Hughes passed away in 2000, but his vision for changing people’s lives – helping people manage their weight, regain their health and find financial prosperity – continues to thrive.


Today, approximately 2.3 million Herbalife Independent Distributors in more than 75 countries are making their dreams of a healthier life and financial independence come true.

The extraordinary vision and commitment that inspired Mark Hughes to found Herbalife began when he was
 a young man. In 1980, Mark launched Herbalife by working as the first Distributor selling the nutritional products.
As more and more people tried the products and experienced positive results, the business quickly expanded.
Mark developed a network of Distributors who shared his vision, were passionate about the products and
 excited about the business opportunity.

1930 - 2009
Jim Rohn believed more in what each member of his audience could accomplish than they believed of themselves. He has been described 
as a philosopher, motivator and entrepreneur. His ability to help  
people dig deep within themselves, discover their own potential
through personal development, and unleash their success has
helped millions around the globe step closer to their dreams.
Jim was able to show people how to tap into their personal potential 
and overcome the negative thoughts and actions that hold most of us back. His life was devoted to studying the fundamentals of human behavior and personal motivation that affect professional performance. Jim had a way of breaking down everyday life to simple thoughts and phrases that have stood the test of time.
Jim is most well known for his lectures to the direct selling industry. One of his most popular audiences was that of Herbalife independent distributors. After meeting Herbalife founder Mark Hughes in the early 1980s, Jim began to teach, motivate and further the lives of 
thousands of distributors around the world each year. With his soft
 but direct voice and simple examples, such as the four seasons, 
Jim showed distributors around the globe how they too could find success and move beyond their self-imposed limits. He was one of those rare humans who knew how to touch people and more importantly, make them look inside to find life-changing answers.
Jim has helped to motivate and train an entire generation of personal development trainers as well as hundreds of executives. Over a
career spanning four decades, he addressed more than 6,000 
audiences and authored more than 25 books, audio and video
programs.

Herbalife® opens in Mexico, Spain and Israel.
Herbalife trainings evolve, featurings on-stage appearances by President's Team members.
1988
Herbalife opens in New Zealand.
Herbalife Diet Disc launches.

1987
Herbalife broadcasts live to Australia with simultaneous interpretation in two languages.
Mark Hughes shares his passion about Herbalife during a satellite broadcast shown to millions.

1986
Herbalife goes public, trading on the NASDAQ exchange.
Jim Rohn, internationally noted business philosopher and motivational speaker, teams up with Herbalife.

1st flavored Formula 1 is introduced in Chicago, IL.

1985
Mark Hughes testifies before congress.
Approximately 3,000 Herbalife supporters rally in Washington, D.C., during Senate hearings on weight-loss products.

Herbalife's Medical Advisory Board is established.

Herbalife celebrates its 5th Anniversary.

Mark makes a guest appearance on the Merv Griffin show and talks about Herbalife.

Xtra-Cal® launches.

Herbalife opens its 1st European country, the United Kingdom.
81 Distributors from around the world attend the first international Corporate School in Toronto, Canada.

Herbalife broadcasts 1st satellite program over its own network (HCN), and airs 1st infomercial, introducing Kindermins®

Herbalife opens in Australia
The Herbalife Journal becomes a monthly publication received by all Distributors.

Launch of Herbalifeline®.

Herbalife opens in Canada.
Herbalife's first computer system is acquired.

1981
The first President's Workshop is held in January, led by Mark.
Herbalife® skincare and hair products launch.

Mark Hughes launches Herbalife in Los Angeles, CA, in February 1980, and begins rewriting
network marketing history.
Mark sells the original program out of the trunk of his car.

Herbalife opens in Jamaica, Iceland, India and Slovak Republic.
Mark Hughes appears on the cover of Network Marketing magazine (U.S.).

Launch of Colour cosmetics line.

Mark Hughes opens an orphanage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and names it Casa Herbalife.
